The fact is retaining best customers remains a challenge for sales and marketing professionals, leading to wasted time and money. Basically, the strategy underlying this model is “Please don’t cancel!” ” The “Please don’t cancel” strategy is, implicitly, a defensive strategy. We have to keep the customer happy–at least happy enough they don’t cancel. They focus on retention or don’t cancel.

It isn’t that the ploys are believable on their own, but that they are marketed as a fix to a problem you didn’t have until they said you had the problem. The others will actually see many more charges run up on their credit cards and will have to cancel their credit card accounts and go through unauthorized charge hassles.
