The surgical students exhibited high levels of stress during the simulation exercise. Rapid loss of dendritic spines after stress involves derangement of spine dynamics by corticotropin-releasing hormone. To track the stress levels of the participants, the researchers used thermal imaging to measure their sweat responses.
